The protection, regulation and quality of Prosecco DOC.

A YOUNG DOC FOR A HISTORIC WINE

The Denomination of Controlled Origin (DOC), obtained in 2009, refers to the production regulations which form the basis for Prosecco DOC and which precisely define the characteristics that this wine must have.
We summarise here some key aspects of these regulations here.

Types: Semi-sparkling, Sparkling, and Still Prosecco

Wording: Prosecco DOC is the main denomination. 

The special mention of Treviso and Trieste can be given if grape harvesting, wine-making and bottling take place entirely within one of these two provinces.

Glera is the basic grape vine used for the production of Prosecco. Up to a maximum of 15% of local varieties (Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Glera Lunga) and/or international varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir with white vinification only) can also be used.

Production area: in the provinces of Belluno, Gorizia, Padova, Pordenone, Treviso, Trieste, Udine, Venezia, and Vicenza.

Minimum total alcohol content: 10.5% Vol (semi-sparkling, still). 11.0% Vol (sparkling)
